Christian Lacroix Spring/Summer 2009 in Paris

christian lacroix 2009 parisChristian Lacroix collection (Spring/Summer 2009) was quite impressive. I would definitely describe it as a simple combination of classic color choice, modern geometric shapes and complicated accessories. In fact, it does seem like accessories and purses were the key to the show. Also, hair an makeup added individuality: bangs and volume combined with natural makeup looked gorgeous. Just see for yourself:

Got Yellow for 2009?

yellow is the fashion color of 2009According to Pantone, the world-renowned authority on color, yellow will become the dominant fashion color of 2009 (especially the “baby” shade of yellow). This year it symbolizes the sun, warmth and hope. Yellow also provides a rich palette of shades available to fashion designers for experiments and playful combination. And this is probably true: it is not frequent that one sees yellow variations as a theme of an entire designer collection. Carolina Herrera, Badgley Mischka, Michael Kors, Ossie Clarke, Paul Costelloe and Just Cavalli gladly accepted the new trend and offered this warm color in their spring designs.

Makeup fashion 2009 also did not stay behind. As you have probably heard a billion times by now, smokey eyes dominate the scene. However, Clarins, Estee Lauder, Dior, Chanel and many other famous brands suggested warm goldfish/yellowish shades in their version of smokey eyes; Prada 2009 Spring/Summer collection featured very natural makeup with an abundance of warm shades (a more detailed overview is coming soon).

So, it sounds like it’s the perfect time to include yellow into your fashion shopping list!

Models, Magazines and Money – The Most Recent Successes of Three M-s

hilary duff in maxim magazine 2009Famous models + Big magazines = Big money. No surprise here. For this reason (among others) a lot of celebrities and entertainment figures act as models for famous brands on occasion. Nothing unusual here as well. However, among the variety of celebrity photos accessorizing covers of famous (and not so famous) magazines, I found a few especially interesting:

Hilary Duff on the cover of January 2009 Maxim:

Gisele Bundchen in the American Photo Magazine:
gisele bundchen
Penelope Cruz promoting Mango clothing line together with her gorgeous sister Monica:
penelope and monica cruz
Kim Kardashian offering her own calendar for 2009. Since we are a family oriented fashion magazine, there was no way to illustrate it, of course; but it was quite… colorful.

And of course, Heidi Klum in December 2008 issue of Italian GQ magazine.
heidi klum
Speaking of money making machines: Heidi was named #2 Money Girl of the modeling world by models.com. Surprisingly enough, she lost the top spot to Kate Moss who continues to rather quietly capitalize on her super model status. According to models.com, in 2008 Ms. Moss enjoyed attention of such powerful names as Donna Karan, Longchamp, Roberto Cavalli, YSL, H&M clothing line, Rimmel Cosmetics, Longchamp with Mert and Marcus, Just Cavalli with Inez and Vinoodh, Stella McCartney with Inez and Vinoodh, Donna Karan with Mert and Marcus, David Yurman with Peter Lindbergh.

Gisele Bundchen, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio continued the top 5 Money Girls list.

All about Hands: Organic Skin Care in Winter

hand care in winter: organic skin careHow many times this winter have you struggled with the unpleasant feeling of completely dry hands?  Heating, cold, nasty weather, wind, house cleaning and numerous other factors make our hands become a source of permanent discomfort, especially in winter. While it is definitely recommended to use hand creams and moisturizers with vitamins and minerals, it is also very easy and efficient to use organic skin care methods: they are natural, very affordable and extremely effective.

Tip no. 1: Wash your hands with room temperature water. Cold water makes skin become rough and in some cases peel; hot water dries it.

Tip no. 2: Beauty tubs for hands:

• Starch fights sandpapery skin: dissolve 1 tbs. of starch in water (1 l.), keep your hands in the solution for 15 min. and rinse it off with warm water.
• Sea salt beats wet palms: dissolve 1 tsp. of sea salt in warm water (1 l.), keep your hands in the solution for 5-10 min. every day (for about 7 days in a row depending on how bad the problem is).
• Eggs and oil help weather-beaten hands: thoroughly mix 1 egg yellow with 1 tbs. of olive oil and 1 tsp. of natural honey, cover your hands and leave it on for 15-20 min.

As a final touch, use a small amount of hand moisturizer or cream after any hands’ beauty tub.

A word about healthy looking nails:

1. Nutrition is your no. 1 weapon: vitamin A (tomatoes, carrots, greens) and calcium (dairy products) help nails stay firm.
2. Vitamin E (sunflower seeds, oil) nourishes nails.
3. Vitamin B (cabbage, egg yellows) and iodine (spinach, sea grass) stimulate nail growth.
4. Lemon juice eliminates yellowish nail color after using nail polish removers with acetone (just use a small piece of lemon as a nail wipe).

After all, nobody should be able to tell how old you are by looking at your hands even in winter!

Makeup Lounge in Your Local Dealership? How Automotive Industry Is Changing… in Fashion

This is definitely something that can be a called a “quiet revolution”. Women and cars are simply inseparable today and it is self explanatory: family, work, errands, responsibilities, shopping and more.  And we rarely think of the role in general that a modern woman plays in today’s world (and correspondingly in marketing including automotive marketing). I recently came across an interesting research, a topic of a Mercedes-Benz press release that provided some intriguing facts:

“In Europe about half of all drivers are of the female sex, and half of all new cars are bought by female customers,“ wrote the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in 1995 in its report on the workshop for women designers entitled, Women and The Car – No Love Affair? “This is in glaring disproportion to the percentage of women employed in the automotive industry, particularly in the design departments responsible for the form and function of the final product.“

Further, the press release stated:

“Not that long ago Mercedes-Benz, too, hit upon the idea of bringing together the fashion world and cars. During Milan fashion week the Stuttgart car brand presented the Mercedes-Benz CLK designo by Giorgio Armani, as it was officially called, which was later offered for sale in a limited series of 100 units. The Mercedes-Benz CLK was equipped by couturier Giorgio Armani, with the vigorous support of the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio in Como, directed at the time by a woman.

Women make natural car buyers

Women as consumers have become a crucial economic factor for the automobile industry in recent years. “In car marketing women used to be regarded as a silent target group that did not specifically have to be taken into account in model development and brand communication,“ wrote the advertising journal Horizont in 2004. “In view of the persisting downturn in car manufacturers’ sales, this paradigm has increasingly begun to crumble.“…” The newspaper readers also learned that the „favorite color for women when buying a car” was blue, followed by silver grey, black and red, and that by the end of the 20th century women saw environmental friendliness and safety as important criteria when deciding on a car.”… “Women pay special attention to interior design and interior materials, to stowage space and trays, and not least of all to the price. Men, on the other hand, focus on engineering, safety, resale value and flexibility,“ the advertising journal Horizont told us in 2008. “It pays for industry to make note of the differences. Women are one of the auto industry’s most important target groups…”

Of course, celebrities did not stay silent: Heidi Klum, Brittney Spears and Drew Barrymore each designed their own version of a “happy” dream Mercedes-Benz car for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in 2002 (photos to the left).

So, how about a makeup lounge in your neighborhood dealership? (of course, it is a joke, or is it?). Maybe it would be an overkill, maybe a very marketable idea for the automotive industry that clearly needs change anyways. It’s up to you to decide. We are just reporting fashion.

Stuttgart – The fashion activities of Mercedes-Benz in over 20 countries now have a new face. International top model Julia Stegner will make her first appearance as the fashion brand-ambassador at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin Autumn/Winter 2009, which will take place from 28 January to 1 February 2009 at Bebelplatz, in the heart of Berlin. At a recent photo shoot for the new key visual, Julia Stegner posed together with the Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 CGI Grand Edition in outfits by Anne Valerie Hash. The new key visual will appear on advertisements, posters and vehicles at the only German fashion show that ranks among the top international events.

“With Julia Stegner as brand ambassador, we have given our long-term, international fashion activities a fascinating and world-famous face,” says Anders Sundt Jensen, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars. “She particularly represents the connection between German origin and international flair. That’s why in our key visual we have very consciously placed Julia Stegner together with the new Mercedes-Benz CLS Grand Edition, which will be launched on the market in March 2009.” The unique, four-door coupe features an unusual design that combines the sporty elegance of a coupe with the flair of a luxury sedan. Sales of this special model are scheduled to start in January, 2009.
Michelangelo di Battista, one of the most sought-after fashion photographers in the world, staged the encounter between the top model and the design trendsetter by the Stuttgart based carmaker. “The idea was to pick up the red carpet situation at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks and thus create a strong connection between fashion and the vehicle’s elegance,” explains Michelangelo di Battista. The design of the key visual is based on the link between Mercedes-Benz Design and fashion: style, elegance and luxury. “Mercedes-Benz and fashion – they really fit together well. I think Mercedes-Benz cars are chic – just like fashion. So I’m delighted to be the international fashion brand-ambassador for Mercedes-Benz,” says Julia Stegner.
For the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin Autumn/Winter 2009, the international top model will fly in from New York, where she has been living since 2004. “I’m very much looking forward to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. Berlin is such a vibrant city. I really like to be there,” says Julia Stegner.

China 2009: Fashion Industry Growing with Elegance

China Fashion Week, Beijing 2008-2009China Fashion Week 2009 took place in a luxurious Beijing Hotel and D•PARK Beijing House in November 2008. It goes without saying, it featured a lot of established and famous designer names (Cabbeen, NE•TIGER, 1436, ERDOS, GIOIAPAN, MarymaSeries, LeaSeong, Omnialuo, TANGYcollection, BeautyBerry and many more)  but it also gave an opportunity to over 150 new talents: all in all, almost 40 fashion designers and 60 fashion collections.

It is well known that China is a very fast developing strategic point of almost any industry. This trend did not pass by fashion and design. Aside from China Fashion Week, the soon to be last year also was marked by the first Versace show in China, glamorous and impressive. Current executives of this Italian brand noted that they would like to make China a regular stop on their long list of fashion events. And honestly, it is not surprising given that the House of Versace invested a few million Euros into new stores and the brand developments in China in 2008.China Fashion Week 2009

As always, China Fashion Week had a special artistic spirit to it that was reflected in designs and the presentation of its fashion collections:

L’oreal Fashion Week in Toronto, Canada: Making Every Day Beautiful

L’oreal Fashion Week in Toronto, Canada walked the runway with great success in October 2008. The party (sponsored by LG) was tastefully organized and impressed all attendees with quality arranged for the rumored million dollars spent on the event. Maroon 5 entertained the public as well as a number of other bands. And of course, designers, models and attitude. Casual designs by Katya Revenko, Joeffer Caoc, Evan Biddell, Buffalo David Bitton, futuristic elements from Evan & Dena, spring elegance from Rudsak and Gsus Sindustries were among our favorites. It goes without saying, fashion is about “Fabulosity” with capital “F” but sometimes feeling relaxed and casual is so nice! Casual and stylish go together very well:
